I am Susmit Mhatre and I am a Master's student at Creighton University. I am pursing my Masters in Pharmaceutical Sciences with emphasis on Pharmacology/Pharmaceutics and conduct my research work under the guidance of my supervisors Dr Catherine Opere and Dr Somnath Singh.
We currently use a glaucomatous rabbit model to evaluate the hypotensive and neuroprotective role of novel hydrogen sulfide donors. We then take suitable donors and formulate sustained release drug delivery systems for topical and subconjunctival applications. Previously, I have worked on a couple of projects, one that required extensive computational modelling for drug discovery and other that was based on development and characterization of a nanosuspension.
I am fascinated by how a disease condition can be treated if the relevant regulatory pathways are intervened and manipulated using biomolecules and small molecules. For the sake of that, I am looking forward to projects that involve understanding the fundamentals of a disease pathophysiology and explore cellular targets to develop an effective therapeutic strategy. More recently, I have been interested in the translation of endogenous cells (like iPSCs), genes and RNAs, and engineered cells (like CAR-T) in management of diseases.
