Liposomes are phospholipid membrane-based vehicles which are used to deliver active pharmaceutical ingredients. We have used asymmetric flow field-flow fractionation (AFFF) as an analytical tool to evaluate size-based distribution of APIs and excipients in liposomes. We developed capillary electrophoresis (CE) methods to evaluate encapsulation efficiencies and drug release profiling of liposomal formulations. These examples show the immense power of AFFF and CE, coupled with other analytical methods, to monitor liposomal-based drug formulations.
