Senior Research Scientist
Nitto Avecia
Collin Wetzel is a Senior Research Scientist at Nitto Avecia, working out of Cincinnati Ohio. Collin received a PhD in analytical chemistry from the University of Cincinnati. His PhD thesis work consisted of developing LC-MS-MS/MS based approaches to study modified nucleobases in tRNA and other biologically relevant nucleic acids. After his PhD, he took a post-doctoral position at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where he was mentored by David Plas and Maria F. Czyzyk-Krzeska, who study Glioblastoma and clear cell Renal Cell Carcinoma metabolism. Here he developed and applied isotope tracer experiments and stable labeled isotope methods to study oncogenic metabolism is various cells and solid tumors. During this time Collin received a post-doctoral fellowship from the American Cancer Society to study nucleotide metabolism driven by the Pentose Phosphate Pathway. Currently, he works at Nitto Avecia in the Analytical Development department where he develops methods for characterizing pharmaceutical oligonucleotides. The group he works with focuses on mass spectrometry and non-mass spectrometry based sequencing methods used for identity tests.
