Joshua S. Katz is a Senior R&D Manager with IFF Pharma Solutions. He received his S.B. in Chemistry from MIT in 2006, where he worked with Prof. Darrell Irvine. He then moved to the University of Pennsylvania, studying under of Professors Jason Burdick and Daniel Hammer, earning his Bioengineering PhD in 2011. From school, he joined the Formulation Science group at Dow Chemical, working on projects focused on encapsulation and controlled delivery for a variety of industries including pharmaceuticals, coatings, agriculture, and industrial composites. During the DowDuPont merger and subsequent split, Josh joined the Pharma Solutions business, leading the Colloids and Biopharma R&D group within DuPont Nutrition and Biosciences. In early 2021, DuPont Nutrition and Biosciences merged with IFF, leading to his present position. His research today focuses on fundamentals and applications of biologics formulations.
Josh has won several awards recognizing his research accomplishments including a Graduate Research Fellowship from the NSF (2006), Best Poster in Competition from MIT BMES (2006), and a named finalist for the DSM Polymer Technology Award 2011 presented by the POLY division of ACS. He holds 4 US patents, is an author of 7 patent applications, and has over 30 peer-reviewed publications.
