Postdoctoral Research Associate
St. Louis College of Pharmacy
My name is Burcu Uner, and I am currently working as a postdoctoral research associate in drug delivery under the guidance of Dr. Giovanni M. Pauletti at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, MO. Trained as a pharmacist in Turkey, I learned to understand that patient compliance is a critical component for successful outcome of many therapeutic interventions. I was intrigued by the opportunity to contribute to the development of new drug delivery technologies designed to enhance patient compliance and, consequently, enrolled in the PhD program in Pharmaceutical Technology at Istanbul University, Institute of Health Sciences (Turkey). Under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Yildiz Ozsoy, I gained a deeper understanding of robust experimental design and statistical analysis and improved my technical skills in fabrication as well as in vitro and in vivo analysis methodologies of nanoscale drug delivery systems, including bioresponsive in situ gel formulations.
In my desire to further expand my training in collaborative drug delivery research and prepare myself for an academic position, I joined the laboratory of Dr. Giovanni M. Pauletti at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, MO. Since April 2022, I have been fortunate to contribute to a transdisciplinary research project focusing on the development of a female-controlled contraceptive medical device that involves experts from engineering, reproductive medicine, and drug delivery.
