As a materials scientist, I have always had a fascination with how atomic and molecular properties lead to different interactions and how those interactions, in turn, give rise to the macro-scale behavior that we see with materials. In my graduate research, I focused on how novel organic electronic materials interact, phase separate, crystallize, etc. and how those nano-scale phenomena influence the device-scale performance. I leveraged principles of chemistry, physics, and machine learning to create methods for predicting device performance based on thin film morphologies.
Since then, I pivoted to pharmaceutical materials and I bring the same focus as my graduate research - how do the excipients we chose, manufacturing processes we select, and the physiology of the patient or animal model influence the interactions and performance of API? For the past 2.5 years, I have worked in the CDMO space, specializing in formulation development and selection of amorphous solid dispersions and their solid dosage forms.
I received my PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Washington, and have Bachelor's degrees in Physical Chemistry (B.S.) and Physics (B.A.) from Whitworth University.
