Hearing loss is affecting millions of people worldwide, necessitating innovative approaches to address this growing health concern. This presentation will mainly focus on discussing the research results on promising potential of extracellular vesicles (EVs) as a cutting-edge tool in hearing loss therapeutics. The results showed a novel way to harness EVs, tiny lipid-bound particles secreted by cells, to encapsulate CRISPR/Cas9 ribonucleoproteins (EV-RNP). Meanwhile, the in vivo studies demonstrated the promising delivery of the resulting EV-RNP to the inner ears which suggested that EVs would be used as the nanocarriers to deliver the targeted treatments directly to the inner ear for preventing inflammation and tissue degeneration. Ultimately, EVs emerge as a highly promising nanocarrier for future therapeutic delivery to the inner ear.
