Women scientist around the world are grossly underrepresented in STEM field, a key factor contributing to this is work - life harmony. The need to continuously be successful at work and personal life affect women’s physical and mental wellbeing. This is even more challenging at entry career level when the personal life growth (in childbearing age) coincides with career progression and additional responsibilities. This challenge gets amplified when the supervisors or managers are insufficiently equipped with tools and policies to support. Therefore, this career development session will take two prong approach to 1) focus on understanding the challenges that women face particularly in science field that affects their work-life harmony and 2) provide leadership/management skills to managers to support them. The discussion panel will include diverse group (different career level – junior, middle, senior) of women in pharmaceutical industry who will address the intrinsic (personal) and extrinsic (professional) factors that affect the work-life harmony. The session will provide ideas for building self-confidence, establishing trusted partners both at work/life, setting boundaries and focusing on priorities to achieve the work-life integrity. Additionally, this career development session will provide the supervisors/managers/colleagues with practical tips and tools that can be used to support their direct hires/colleagues who they see in need. By the end of the session, the audience of all career levels are expected to benefit by understanding the challenges and coping strategies for the well being and productivity of female scientists.
