(T1330-09-58) Principle Component Analysis of Formulation Variations on Binder Jet 3D Printed Tablet

Purpose: To identify potential uses, advantages, and concerns for the utilization of 3D Printing techniques within the pharmaceutical industry at the bedside, clinical, and industrial scale. To promote regulatory advancements and develop understanding of the quality for novel products so they may be used to treat problematic disease states and promote patient compliancy.

Methods: Powder character of blended formulations will be analyzed by powder rheometry, water content, tapped density, and particle size distribution. Printed tablets will be characterized by dimensional accuracy, solid fraction, disintegration, loss on drying, tablet hardness, friability, dissolution and tablet API content.

Results: A Principal Component Analysis revealed that printed tablet tensile strength, solid fraction and final loss on drying were most correlated to the prints with the least variation in product API content uniformity.

Conclusion: With further studies, the relationship between 3D printing variabilities can be determined with a focus on variables that effect product tensile strength, solid fraction and loss drying.
